Friendship operates both public charter schools and turnaround schools in partnership with local school districts. Serving more than 700 students, Chamberlain has one of the strongest school performance records in the District of Columbia. In 2004-05, Chamberlain achieved the highest Stanford 9 reading and math test scores of all public elementary schools of similar demographics. These results follow six years of academic performance that exceed state goals. Chamberlain students were finalists in the Scripps National Spelling Bee, hosts for U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu (LA) during National Charter School Week and ambassadors for National Breakfast Week. Students benefited from numerous educational partnerships including the Washington Performing Arts Society In-School Artist Residency Program, Kennedy Center Performance Program, the Toyota Book Initiative and Shakespeare Theater Text Alive! The Chamberlain Elementary campus is located in Ward 7 at 1345 Potomac Avenue, Southeast. Friendship invested over fifteen million dollars for a major campus expansion that added 16 new classrooms, a gymnasium, student dining hall, interactive library and technology-rich SmartLab™ to transform the Southeast facility into a high quality educational environment. Today, Southeast students, parents and staff enjoy a vibrant and productive elementary school. Vaulted ceilings, bright light fixtures, hallways in red and ivory and classrooms outfitted with new textbooks and mobile computer laptop carts have created a learning laboratory where students and staff can thrive. The Southeast Elementary Academy campus is located in Ward 8 at 645 Milwaukee Place, Southeast. Hours of operation are 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with enrichment activities before and after school and on weekends. ![]() Home of the Eagles Danielle Neves, Principal Praised for its robust academics and nurturing staff, Woodridge Elementary and Middle serves students in grades pre-school to eight. Teachers ensure that every student achieves a high standard of proficiency by integrating a range of learning tools in daily instruction. They include the Woodridge SmartLab™ computer center, science lab, interactive library and dedicated space for art and music. Woodridge also offers an intensive, after school intervention program that is aligned with classroom curriculum and helps students increase their mastery of core subject areas. Woodridge students have achieved exceptional scores on the DC CAS assessment test exceeding the standard by more than 10 percent in reading and math for the most recent testing year. Additionally, 70 percent of fifth graders received honors in one or more subjects. These results continue four years of student performance that exceed state goals. Woodridge has received numerous awards and recognition for its work in advancing achievement including a Blue Ribbon Schools nomination, special visit by President Bush and U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings, visit by Mrs. Bush and many other prestigious honors. This has been exhibited with their middle school being exhibited with their middle being one of the most recognized in the District of Columbia for academic rigor. Blow Pierce has expanded the grades and students served by becoming the highest performing Elementary School. To achieve this Blow Pierce has partnered with George Washington University for a comprehensive Early Childhood Education program. In addition they have additional partnerships and supports to make sure that the youngest students have the best start in order to finish strong. In 2005-06, Blow Pierce established a National Junior Honer Society chapter and introduced Friendship Public Charter School's Pre-Early College curriculum that exposes middle school students to accelerated English, Geometry and Algebra courses. This program connects with Friendship Collegiate Academy High School where students have the opportunity to graduate with two years of college credits. Blow Pierce is home to an award-winning robotics team and is one of two campus bureaus for the Friendship News Network (FNN), a year-round after school and summer journalism program where students create their own magazine, radio and television. Blow Pierce also offers a complete range of extra-curricular and athletic programs including baseball, basketball, tennis and football. The Blow Pierce Junior Academy campus is located in Ward 7 at 725 19th Street, Northeast. Hours of operation are 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with enrichment activities before and after school and on weekends. ![]() Home of the Knights Peggy Pendergrass, Principal Collegiate Academy is a college preparatory high school serving students in grades nine through 12. Challenging and relevant, Collegiate’s comprehensive curriculum prepares students for college and the world of work in a global economy. Students benefit from a broad offering of Advanced Placement (AP) and Honors courses, as well as Career Academy courses that provide pathways in technology, science, engineering, law and communication arts. Collegiate AP offerings include AP Computer Science, a rarity among area high schools because of its rigor. The Collegiate Early College allows highly motivated students starting in the ninth grade the opportunity to take college courses and earn a maximum of two years college credit as they complete their diploma. Collegiate boasts high graduation and college acceptance rates. Of the nearly 300 seniors enrolled last year, 92 percent graduated and a majority of graduates were accepted to college. Collegiate has won numerous honors for its efforts to provide college-going opportunities for all students including an EPIC Award for making significant gains with students and the College Board Inspiration Award for improving access to higher education. The Collegiate Academy campus is located in Ward 7 at 4095 Minnesota Avenue, Northeast. The campus is open for extended morning hours from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. on weekdays and special hours on weekends for academic tutorials, career- and service-learning activities, and athletics programs.
