Machinery Control Systems Technician

Position Summary:
As Machinery Control Systems Technician, you will provide in-service engineering support, testing, training and installation of software upgrades for CVN Machinery Control Systems (MCS) to the Naval Service Warfare Center Philadelphia Division. This position is based in Norfolk, VA.

Clearance Requirement:
  • Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret security clearance
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Provide distance and on-site CVN MCS Fleet Technical Support
  • Modify, implement and troubleshoot Allen-Bradley and Siemens PLCs
  • Support shipboard test procedure development and implementation
  • Provide On-The-Job-Training (OJT) and MCS Software Refresher Training
  • Perform MCS grooms and assessments such as Pre-Installation Check-Outs (PICOs) and C5RA aboard CVN 68 class ships
  • Perform shipboard software upgrades during shipboard alterations of applicable CVN 68 Class Ship Change Documents (SCDs),
  • Review and provide updates of all CVN 68 class MCS Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) products, including technical manuals, Preventative Maintenance Systems products, and Allowance Parts Lists (APLs)
Required Education, Skills, and Experience:
  • 5+ years' experience operating and maintaining MCS field devices, indicators, and control circuits (CVN preferred)
  • Active CompTIA Security+ certification (or ability to obtain)
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Working or supervisory experience with MCS
  • Familiarity with basic and advanced features of the MCS software (CVN preferred)
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)
  • Demonstrated experience in troubleshooting Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens I/O Devices.
  • Working knowledge of ALCATEL Core Ethernet Switches, Hirschman Industrial Ethernet Switches, and the ability to test fiber connections inside and outside the Fiber Optic Connection Plant (FOCP)
  • Must be self-motivated and capable of producing quality work with limited supervision.
  • Above average skills working with MS Excel Access, Project and Visio
Preferred Education, Skills, and Experience:
  • Supervisory experience with MCS
  • Comfortable briefing work and issues with senior Sailors (O4 and above)
Physical Demands and Expectations:
  • Ability to travel up to 25%
  • Work will likely require underway (limited at-sea), pier-side, and shipyard time onboard US Naval Vessels.
  • Regular physical activity to include walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, reaching, lifting (up to 30 pounds), and standing; occasional prolonged sitting. C limbing of vertical ladders, climbing through shipboard hatches/scuttles, and bending are required at various field activities and during on-site shipboard inspections.
  • Ability to speak, read, hear and write, with or without assistance
  • Ability to use phone and computer systems, copier, fax and other office equipment
