Combat Systems Readiness Assistance Team Assessor

Position Summary:

As a Combat System Readiness Assistance Team (CSRAT) Assessor, you will provide operational and programmatic support to the Commander Naval Surface Force, U.S. Atlantic Fleet (CNSL), based at Naval Station Norfolk, Norfolk, VA. This position has an expected start of August 2024.

Clearance Required:
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret security clearance
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Provide surface ship Commanding Officers and their crews with assistance in preparing for, Administrative Light Off Assessments, Mock Light-off Assessments, INSURV examinations, and assist with the preparation of execution of TYCOM Readiness Evaluations in accordance with Surface Force Training and Readiness Manual (SFTRM)
  • Perform training evolutions, partnering with ship's crews to improve technical knowledge, operational understanding, performance during assessments, and ultimately, enhanced readiness
  • Submit timely, accurate, and candid assessment findings
Required Education, Skills, and Experience (Various Roles):
  • 25 years of U.S. Navy experience with senior combat systems department leadership.
  • Must be a U.S. Naval Officer (Surface Warfare Officer/Limited Duty/Chief Warrant Officer), or Senior Chief or Master Chief Petty Officer (E8-E9)
  • Former Combat Systems Officer or Systems Testing Officer with two shipboard tours and at least one on an AEGIS ship with Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) capability
  • or non-AEGIS
  • Designation as a shipboard Tactical Action Officer (TAO) and have completed the Navy's Personnel Qualification Standard (PQS) NAVEDTRA 43304-Series
  • A graduate of the associated Navy A and C schools' rates associated with AEGIS and be considered an expert in the AEGIS/BMD field. Graduate of AEGIS Warfare System and BMD course; Qualified Radar Systems Controller (RSC), Combat System Coordinator (CSC) Operator and CSOOW
  • Experience as a Combat Systems Maintenance Manager (CSMM)
  • Graduate of Small Arms Instructor Course.
  • Experience as a Senior Weapons Inspector.
  • Experience as an Explosive Safety Inspector.
  • Additional Qualification Designators (AQDs) for AEGIS, Tactical Action Officer (TAO) within the past 3 years.
  • Experience should include inspection, operation, and testing expertise in one or more of the following Combat Systems mission areas:
    • RADAR systems/AEGIS RADAR system (all baselines)
    • AEGIS fire control system (all baselines)
    • AEGIS computer and display system (all baselines)
    • Vertical Launch System, handling equipment, launcher control unit,
    • Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) systems
    • Combat Systems and Command, Control, Communications, Computers & Intelligence (C5I)
    • Shipboard Communications and Data Links
    • Consolidated Afloat Networks and Enterprise Services (CANES)
    • AN/USQ-208(V) system
    • Light Weight Gun Mount (LWGM)
    • MK45 Gun System
    • MK38 Machine Gun System
    • Magazine Sprinkler systems
Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • 20-25 years of Navy experience in a specific area of specialty
  • Experience as a Senior Combat Systems Inspector for the U.S. Navy Board of Inspection and Survey (INSURV)
  • Experience as a Weapons / Combat Systems inspector at the Afloat Training Group or TYCOM staff focusing on pre-INSURV preparations
  • Experience on Major Command Staff (DESRON, ESG, PHIBRON) or Fleet/ TYCOM Staff
Physical Demands and Expectations:
  • Must have a passport and be willing to travel up to 35% of the year to CONUS/OCONUS locations
  • Ability to work in an industrial shipboard/shipyard environment, climb shipboard ladders, and wear all required safety equipment
  • Able to lift (up to 50lb), carry, and transport heavy equipment and materials required.
  • Able to meet U.S. Navy ship-rider requirements
  • Ability to speak, read, hear, and write, with or without assistance
