Ameresco has a new opportunity for an Operations and Maintenance Technician (O&M Tech) in Portsmouth, VA for a new CHP plant, consisting of two gas turbine generators with HRSGs, one steam turbine, three package boilers and the associated balance of plant equipment. The CHP plant will run 24/7/365. The O&M Tech will be responsible for field operations and minor maintenance of the CHP and other Project equipment at the Norfolk Naval Base. This position reports ultimately to the Site Manager with a day-to-day report to the Shift Leader This position requires rotating shifts (day/night) including weekends and Holidays as well as overtime.

Responsibilities:

  • Follow all standard industry, Navy protocols and internal company procedures on Safety.

  • Follow all required environmental permits.

  • Work as the field operator for the CHP taking direction from the Shift Leader. Tasks included, but not limited to, start-up/shutdown of process equipment, opening/closing valves, water treatment testing, process trouble shooting/acumen, lock out/tag out, housekeeping, and performing field observations.

  • Work as a maintenance technician using basic tools and performing routine preventative maintenance at the CHP, Waste Treatment Plant, and other associated project equipment.

  • Functioning as an assistant to Ameresco Mechanics and Electricians as well as Ameresco contractors.

  • Assist in the implement and continued improvement of the Preventative Maintenance Program for the site.

  • Focus on customer satisfaction.

  • Work in the control room as a back-up to the Shift Leader.

  • Use the Ameresco Asset Management Software System AssetPlanner to fill in task completed for PM.

  • On call for emergencies 24/7/365 and rotating shift work (days/nights/holidays).

  • Perform other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in power plants or similar industrial plants.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Strong work ethic and communication skills

  • Basic computer skills

  • The ability to work in different environmental conditions - sever heat or cold.

  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds, climb ladders, navigate stairs, enter confined spaces.

  • Operate heavy equipment such as forklifts and scissor lifts.

  • Excellent customer service skills.

  • Valid Drivers' License in good standing, issued by state of residence.

  • Ability to successfully complete position training and testing requirements.

  • This position may require eligibility to Review DoD Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI)

  • This position may require the ability to obtain a DoD Non-Escort Access Badge.
