Job Description

THOR Solutions is actively seeking an Auxiliary Technician with experience in maintaining and certifying shipboard deck, cranes, steering gear, and Material Handling Equipment (MHE) to support MARMC at Norfolk, VA. The technician will provide support to a technical services contract at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center (MARMC) in Norfolk, VA.

Primary Responsibilities:The candidate's responsibilities may include (but are not limited to) performing or supporting the following:

  • Provide Full-Time Onsite Support as well as Surge Support as tasked for the following Code 255 cognizant equipment:
    • Sliding Pad eyes
    • Boat Davits
    • Cranes
    • Capstans
    • Antenna Tilting groups
    • Steering Gear
    • Chocks
  • Conduct Fleet Technical Assistance on-site or via distance support as required, to include engineering/technical evaluations, equipment functional checks, troubleshooting, test, analysis and equipment repairs as tasked.
  • Conduct inspection requirements for crane brakes, clutches, drive trains, wire rope, and other mechanical components integral to the operation of WHE requirements, as well as inspection requirements for electrical motors, motor control circuits, and other electrical components integral to the operation of WHE.
  • Conduct pre-job briefings
  • Familiarity with the P-307 publication
  • Conduct Assessments, Inspections, and Grooms determining equipment condition and out of specification settings; observe operation of the equipment by ship's force to witness the full range of performance, when possible; utilize appropriate measuring equipment to obtain data for evaluation; evaluate findings and make adjustments and repairs to the maximum extent possible during the time available.
  • Provide Onboard Maintenance Training (OBMT) to Ship's Force technicians in the operation, repair, and maintenance. The contractor shall perform/provide support during shipboard auxiliary systems tasking including TSRA, INSURV and Tech Assist events.
  • Analyze and review inspection data to determine source of fault, and recommend repair, replacement, or other corrective action.
  • Suggest equipment engineering changes toward improving quality and reliability and to facilitate installation, maintenance, and repair.
  • Assist with the preparation and adjudication of Departures from Specifications (DFS), Engineering Support Requests (ESRs), and review of work items/process control procedures (PCPs) when required, including development of risk assessment.
  • Report findings/discrepancies as required to the designated Team Leader and/or Branch Head of MARMC 255 via Material Assessment Form (MAF), Prisms/ETC Software, TAAS-Info, debrief and/or Technical Assistance Visit Report (TAVR) within two working days of completion of task.
Location: Full time onsite at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center (MARMC) in Norfolk VA.

Security Clearance Requirements:
  • Must already possess an active or interim SECRET security clearance, and maintain it for the duration of employment.
Travel Requirements: Approximately 0-10% travel estimated.

Typical Physical Activity: Primarily desk/computer work in an office environment. May involve: repetitive motion. Periodic visits to waterfront/shipboard environments. May involve: traversing shipboard environments (e.g., confined spaces, ladders, hatches) or vision

Preferred Education, Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
  • High school diploma/GED equivalent.
    • Associate's degree, technical school diploma, or vocational certificate in a relevant discipline is preferred.
  • At least six (6) years of experience in the operation, repair, maintenance, and assessment of US Naval Deck Machinery to include, but not limited to: Sliding Pad eyes, Boat Davits, Cranes, Capstans, Antenna Tilting groups, and Chocks.
    • Experience must be recent, within the last two (2) years.
    • Total experience should also include at least five (5) years specialized experience in troubleshooting and assessment of US Naval Deck equipment, in the official capacity of a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for either a US NAVY Engineering activity or an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM).
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of Navy assessment programs, visit processes and reporting methods for visits.
  • Demonstrate regularly using accepted current instrumentation for diagnosing equipment.
  • Demonstrate ability for interpreting wiring diagrams and control schematics.
  • Ability to utilize computers including the Microsoft Office Suite for compiling information for reports and history files and transfer digital pictures from camera to computer and enhance as required and label them for report purposes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
  • Demonstrate an ability to interpret wiring diagrams, control schematics and plans and the ability as Subject Matter Expert (SME) to troubleshoot, analyze and provide distance support for listed equipment.
