Job/Internship Description

Blue Ridge Bank has established a paid student internship program in collaboration with local high schools, colleges and universities, and the Virginia Bankers Association Internship Program.

We have (5) positions:

One (1) Marketing position in Richmond, VA (Bayberry Court)

Four (4) in Retail Banking at various branch locations:

    • Montross Branch
    • Kilmarnock
    • Robious
    • Charlottesville

Internship Purpose: These temporary summer internship positions are designed to provide students with the opportunity to gather career-related work experiences. Interns must be of legal working age (18) or older to participate in the program.

Blue Ridge Bank is partnering with the Virgina Banker's Association to add enrichment and further exposure to careers in the banking industry. This will include required in-person training and networking opportunities (including some self-paced virtual training).

Internship Responsibilities:

  • Commitment to understanding the overall concept of the company, including the brand, customer, product goals, and all other aspects of service.
  • Accepts designated, business-focus projects to research, propose ideas and solutions, and present final project during the internship.
  • Complete a capstone project and present to bank leaders and external participants.
  • Engages with customers or clients and provides service and/or sales under direct supervision.
  • Provide suggestions to management for improving customer service and internal processes.
  • Learns and becomes proficient on internal software systems.
  • Attends all required in-person VBA hosted training and events including but not limited to, orientation on May 23 and the Mid-Summer meet up on July 9 2024.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Education: Current Enrollment in a College Level Program/Degree

Skills:

  • Strong computer skills relevant to Microsoft Office Suites (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong decision-making/problem resolution skills.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical and math skills, organizational skills, and customer service skills.
  • Effective verbal and written skills to effectively communicate in the English language required.

Abilities:

  • Ability to learn bank programmed software.
  • Ability to work all branch hours, in office, including weekend and evenings.
  • Ability to work within a team environment.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as procedure manuals, general business correspondence, and/or journals, or government regulations.
  • Ability to deal directly with the public, on the phone or face to face, following the Bank's Customer Service Standards.
