Description

A Civil Engineer II will be responsible for assisting in various aspects of the Civil engineering portion of a project while working under the supervision and guidance of a licensed Civil Engineer. Typical responsibilities include tasks associated with designing land development projects. This person will work in stand-alone and multi-discipline design teams supervised by senior engineers and project managers on projects of all sizes.

General responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Performing various aspects of Civil design as directed by a Senior Civil Engineer including conceptual studies, design analyses, calculations, site design for buildings or subdivisions, design for infrastructure projects, and design related to a business development activity such as a response to a Request for Proposal (RFP).
  • Preparation of programming documents, schematic documents, design development documents, and construction documents as directed
  • Coordination and communication with design team members to ensure the Civil design details integrate properly with the work of all other project disciplines
  • Preparation of marketing and presentation materials as directed
  • Performing Civil services associated with the bidding process, including preparing addenda and amendments and opening and tabulating bids as directed
  • Performing Civil services associated with the construction phase, including field visits, answering RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, and preparing record drawings as directed
  • Complying with quality control policies and procedures
  • Learn and implement department and company standards
  • Develop analysis and design skills
  • Participating in team meetings and coordinating efforts with other team members
  • Working with, responding to, and taking direction from Senior Engineers, Project Managers and Design Managers
  • Working with a team of architects, engineers, interior designers and landscape architects

Project responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Perform tasks as directed by senior staff
  • Responsible for document organization and clarity
  • Responsible for discipline drawing coordination
  • Completing sections and details produced to a schematic-level of completion by the Engineer
  • Creating schematic-level site layout and grading plans for projects of low to moderate complexity
  • Creating schematic level roadway layout and grading plans
  • Development of manual calculations and analytical models for Civil analysis and design purposes
  • Participate in developing a model of the site design and utilities in Civil 3D on projects where modeling is a requirement
  • Assist with preparing LEED templates on projects where LEED certification is a requirement
  • Adhere to project budget and schedule

Education, Technology, and Experience

  • Graduate of an ABET-accredited 4-, 5-, or 6-year engineering program in one of the following disciplines:
    • Civil Engineering
    • Civil and Environmental Engineering
    • Civil, Environmental and Infrastructure Engineering
    • Civil Engineering Technology
  • Post-graduate degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering-related degree may be given additional consideration
  • Completed or be in a position to complete the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam and all other state requirements for certification as an EIT is preferred.
  • A Civil Engineer II should have 2-4 years of specific, post-graduation, Civil engineering experience that includes experience with designing a site, roadway, subdivision, or utilities; development of manual calculations and analytical models for Civil analysis and design purposes; development of construction documents (drawings and specifications), coordination with other design team members, and experience in responding to construction phase queries and submittals.
  • Pursuing Professional Engineer licensure (PE) within 36 months of being hired.
  • Understanding of sustainable design principles and design practices and pursuing LEED AP accreditation is desirable
  • Additional certifications such as CDT, CCS, or CCCA are encouraged to reflect personal growth in the profession and an ever increasing knowledge base to enhance the design and documentation process
  • Active membership in NSPE, ASCE or other related professional organizations is desirable
  • A Civil Engineer II should be able to effectively utilize current company software programs for word processing, e-mail, and information management.
  • Working familiarity with design and production software to a point of being able to utilize the software in the development of project documents and interact with other project team members in their use of the software is highly desirable.

Physical Requirements

Work is sedentary and often performed in an office setting. The work area is lighted, heated, and ventilated. This position may require extended periods of standing, sitting, as well as some repetitive movements, bending and lifting of minimal weight.
