Geotechnical Design Intern – Purcellville, Virginia Interested in design-build? GeoStructures is looking for students pursuing a degree in civil or geotechnical engineering who are interested in an internship for the summer of 2024! Our ideal candidate is an enthusiastic self-starter who is ready to put what they are learning in school to real world practice. Come work with a team of great engineers! During the summer, you will have an opportunity to learn about the following:
Design and construction of:
Aggregate Piers
Rigid Inclusions
Ductile Iron Pipe Piles
Micro Piles
Support of Excavation (SOE) systems
Design-Build project lifecycle including:
Project lead generation
Bid/proposal development
Development of design calculation packages and construction drawings
Project management through execution of construction
Development of soft skills including industry networking, communication practices
Our Intern’s Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
Perform assignments requiring application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria to carry out engineering tasks
Exercise judgment limited to developing details of work in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives
Prepare engineering related calculations, develop drawings and visual aids
Perform geotechnical design and analyses under the supervision of a Professional Engineer for shallow and deep foundations, settlement, slope stability
Requirements:
Completion of third year (junior year) in a Civil engineering program, geotechnical concentration preferred
or;
Bachelor of Science in Engineering and currently enrolled in graduate program specializing in Geotechnical Engineering.
Transportation to and from work each day required.
Preference given to previous and applicable work experience.
