QP-1 Program-QA Coatings Inspector
Purpose:
Colonna's Shipyard is looking for a QA Coatings Inspector to support its operations in Norfolk, VA.
The QP-1 Program-QA Coatings Inspector will be responsible for the development, implementation, surveillance, and day to day operations of the Colonna's Shipyard AMMP QP-1 Program. Performs audits, preservation, and other inspections in support of Colonna's Shipyard and its subsidiary requirements.
Job Description:
  • Ensure the AMPP QP-1 Program and other customer specified requirements are implemented and maintained by Colonna's Shipyard and its subcontractors for preservation efforts.
  • Prepares and ensures Colonna's Shipyard and its subsidiaries are prepared and in compliance for the annual QP-1 audit. This includes verifying and having the Objective Quality Evidence for any subcontractors used for preservation activities.
  • Documents, monitors, performs inspection, and maintains quality assurance records or inspections or industrial surface preparation including coatings removal and coating applications involved with vessels and other marine structures.
  • Must have strong understanding of NAVSEA Standard Items, NACE, SSPC and other Customer Specifications.
  • Train Quality Assurance and shop preservation personnel on requirements of Quality Plans, Procedures, Work Instructions, Contracts and/or Customer requirements when needed.
  • Performs audits and surveillances on Colonna's Shipyard and its subcontractors.
  • Liaison between Colonna's Shipyard and the customer, answers and investigates customer discrepancies, concerns and/or issues.
  • Represents the organization at Preservation functions both internal & external.
  • Prepares the Quality Assurance Department to meet external certification or customer audit requirements.
  • Assist in preparing material, information and/or documents needed by upper management.
  • Other job-related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Must have at least 5 years' experience in ship repair, manufacturing, engineering services or technical field, which includes 5 years performing in a role with quality or operational related responsibilities.
  • Must have at least 5 years as a NBPI, NACE, PCI or SSCP Paint certified inspector.
  • Must have knowledge of quality techniques and systems, including quality specifications and/or advanced quality systems.
  • Must have knowledge of Coatings systems, documentation and application methods and requirements.
  • Must have knowledge of NAVSEA Standard Items, SSPC, NACE and ABS requirements.
  • Must be able to lead effective corrective action using disciplined problem-solving methods and statistical analysis.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, communication and writing skills.
  • Must have strong computer skills including Microsoft Office products.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Knowledgeable on ISO 9001 Standards is preferred.
  • ISO 9001 Lead Auditor or auditor training certification preferred.
  • Related Department of Defense experience including direct experience with government customer relations strongly preferred.
Security Requirements:
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain access to Government facilities.
Travel Requirements:
  • Minimal Travel; 10% or less.
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 20 lbs.
  • Must be physically agile to perform tasks in naval ships. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces, including enter and moving through manholes.
  • May ride ships at sea for extended periods
  • Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels.
  • Frequent exposure to noise due to machinery and equipment.
  • Employee is required to operate trucks, forklifts & man-lifts.
  • While performing the duties of this job, you may frequently be required to stand, walk & sit; use hands or fingers; handle or feel; talk and hear. Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb and balance, stoop, squat, kneel, twist and crawl.
  • Work in extreme temperatures and conditions. At times you will work in areas that have less adequate ventilation
  • Frequent use of respirator.
  • Protective clothing or equipment and face shields or goggles shall be worn when welding, cutting, or working with molten metal.
