Position Description
A position on Capital One’s Balance Sheet Planning team offers a successful candidate a unique opportunity to be part of a dynamic team that develops key analytics to drive Capital One’s balance sheet strategies. The Balance Sheet Planning team is responsible for managing Capital One’s $200B balance sheet, including the near-term and long-term financial plan, funding, capital and liquidity positions of the consolidated company and its banking subsidiaries. The successful candidate will participate in shaping Capital One’s long-term business strategy by developing plans to evaluate the company’s steady-state business performance. The individual will also develop critical analyses that drive decision-making on capital and liquidity management. The role offers the candidate the opportunity to evaluate emerging trends in the banking industry and help shape Capital One’s response to these developments. Examples of recently completed projects include: due diligence on Chevy Chase acquisition, SCAP Stress test, TARP repayment, analytics to support capital and liquidity management during recent crisis, analytics to support consolidation of assets under FAS 166/167, Basel III framework on capital and liquidity, long-term financial plan for the consolidated company.
Responsibilities:
Coordinates Capital One’s long-term financial plan and develops analytics to influence the company’s long-term balance sheet strategy
Conducts external research that leads to new insights on industry trends, competitor strategy and relative performance (e.g., benchmarking peer economics), with a view toward gauging Capital One’s steady-state business performance
Applies superior analytical skills to drive key analytics around capital and liquidity in the face of sweeping changes to the regulatory landscape (Basel III)
Collaborates with Corporate Development and LoBs to determine balance sheet, capital and liquidity impacts of M&A activities
Liaises with Credit Risk Management to gauge the resilience of Capital One’s balance sheet under various economic and legislative scenarios
Manages and drives multiple projects with the subject matter experts across Treasury and Finance
Develops analytic frameworks that bring new light to the way in which the company makes decisions
Builds financial models and uses robust quantitative analysis to assess the financial impacts of Capital One’s competing strategic options
Builds relationships across the organization by partnering with other groups (e.g., Corporate Planning, Treasury, LoB Finance, etc?) on large-scale projects
Mentors and develops the talented junior associates from Balance Sheet Planning and across Treasury
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree
• 3 years experience in corporate finance OR financial analysis in banking/financial services
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience in the financial services industry with specific focus on balance sheet planning, capital and liquidity management
• Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills
• Mastery of Excel
• Proven ability to deliver results
• Capacity to operate in white-space
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, project-driven environment and handle multiple assignments simultaneously
• BA/BS in Business Administration, Finance or Engineering
• MBA/CFA
